Iberia Parish – the latest NWS briefing on Tropical Storm Cindy is attached, and is summarized below. In Iberia Parish our most severe weather will occur between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning.
Tropical Storm Cindy is forecast to make landfall in southeast Texas Thursday morning, but we are expecting heavy rain and flooding impacts across much of our forecast area. Three to five inches of rain is expected between now and Thursday, with locally higher amounts of ten inches possible in a stronger rain band. Street flooding will be a problem in these rain bands, and water could get into some homes and businesses. This flooding will be made worse due to the above normal tides, causing rain water to be ineffective in normal draining conditions.
Speaking of the tides, they will be running one to three feet above normal Wednesday and Thursday. During high tide, around midnight and noon each day, vulnerable locations to tidal flooding will include Sabine Pass and Highway 87 going towards Port Arthur, low-lying areas near Bridge City, Highway 82 west and east of Holly Beach, downtown Cameron, Pecan Island, Intracoastal City, Delcambre, Cypremort Point, and Burns Point.
Winds will be gusting over tropical storm force (39 mph) starting Wednesday morning in south central Louisiana, and expanding west into southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas Wednesday afternoon. They will decrease as the storm weakens by midday Thursday after it makes landfall.
Tornadoes could be a threat on Wednesday along and south of the I-10 corridor of southwest and south central Louisiana. On Thursday, the entire region could see an isolated tornado in a rain band. |
