Parish President M. Larry Richard - Second positive case of COVID-19 in Iberia Parish -  3/20/2020
Administration

For more information contact: Prescott Marshall

A second positive case of COVID-19 has been detected in Iberia Parish, neither of which is being treated at Iberia Medical Center. I want to assure the public that we have been planning for the moment when positive cases are detected and are prepared to continue acting in the best interest of the citizens of Iberia Parish in an effort to limit the spread of this virus. We have continued to follow the directives of the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and Governor Edwards regarding COVID-19.

I am in constant contact with the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness; Dr. Tina Stefanski and her staff at the Region 4 Louisiana Office of Public Hearth; Dionne Viator and the physicians and staff of Iberia Medical Center and members of our Congressional delegation. They have been tremendous resources for information relating to COVID-19. I will continue to rely heavily upon them for advice and assistance.

We will continue conducting regular briefings with our local school, municipal, and law enforcement officials. We have all been working diligently to limit or prevent the spread of this virus. You can assist us in doing so by following the following prevention recommendations :

• Wash hands often with soap and water for at least twenty (20) seconds.

• If soap and water are not available use an alcohol-based sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.

• Throw used tissues in the trash and immediately wash your hands.

• Avoid touching your face, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched solid surfaces daily, such as your doorknobs, light switches, phones, desks, keyboards, printers, and other similar office equipment.

• If you are sick, respect your friends and neighbors and stay home.
