Iberia Parish – The latest NWS forecast for Tropical Storm Harvey is below. We are forecast to receive another 1” – 3” of rain tonight, and between 3” and 8” of rain tomorrow (Monday). Our rain forecast for Tuesday Is 1.5 – 2”, Wednesday is 1” – 1.5” and Thursday is 1.5” – 2”. Tornadoes were observed in Vermilion and Iberia Parish this afternoon and there is a slight risk of tornadoes tomorrow. Iberia Parish Public Schools are closed tomorrow, Monday, August 28th. School opening past Monday will be determined on a day to day basis The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is still focusing on a heavy rain and flood event for southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana through at least Tuesday.
Tropical Storm Harvey is slowly moving towards the central Texas coast, and will be near the coast Monday and Tuesday, before moving back onshore near the Houston/Galveston area. Even though it is a tropical storm, the main threat from this system is not the wind, but the rain.
Another round of rain is expected later tonight in southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana, with 5 to 10 inches of rain possible. On Monday, more rain is expected, with another 5 to 10 inches of rain possible in the same area.
For central Louisiana, expect to see 1 to 3 inches of rain tonight through Monday, and south central Louisiana will see 3 to 7 inches of rain, with the higher totals in Vermilion Parish.
Tides will run a foot or two above normal, and winds will be gusty near the coast, at 25 to 35 mph, especially during the stronger rain bands.
There will continue to be a small threat for isolated tornadoes tonight and again on Monday.
