WHEREAS, severe cold weather with extremely low temperatures from a winter weather event impacted Iberia Parish Waterworks District #3 (Coteau) between December 23, 2022 and December 26, 2022 causing reduced water production, multiple distribution line breaks, and fluctuating low pressure levels throughout the District Water System resulting in the loss of water service to the customers within the District; and

WHEREAS, immediate emergency action is necessary to contract with an independent contractor to immediately begin repairs and improvements to the District Water System necessary to restore and maintain adequate water service to the customers of the District in order to protect the health safety and welfare of the citizens, property, and assets of the District; and

WHEREAS, the Parish President is authorized by Louisiana law; including, but not limited to, the Louisiana Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act (LSA - R.S. 29:721, et. seq.) as well as the Iberia Parish Home Rule Charter and other applicable ordinances, resolutions, or statutes to declare a local state of emergency for all or portions of Iberia Parish.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, M. Larry Richard , Parish President of Iberia Parish, Louisiana, hereby declares that a STATE OF LOCAL EMERGENCY exists in the area compromising Iberia Parish Waterworks District #3 (Coteau) beginning at 4 PM on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, and continuing for a period of thirty days unless terminated earlier and that all available resources of Iberia Parish Government are reasonably necessary to cope with this emergency may be utilized.

THIS LOCAL EMERGENCY DECLARATION IS ISSUED ON THIS 28th DAY OF DECEMBER 2022, EFFECTIVE AS SET FORTH HEREINABOVE
