Ibeia Parish – Tropical Storm Cindy currently has top winds of 50 MPH and is forecast to make landfall near the LA/TX border about 2AM. The forecast of Tropical Storm Force (39MPH+) winds in Iberia Parish tonight has been reduced from sustained winds to Tropical Storm Force gusty winds throughout the night. Although we haven’t received significant rains yet from TS Cindy, there is still a forecast for rain bands to develop tonight in our area and out rain forecast is still 3-5” of rain and as much as 10” is possible.
There is also a slight risk of a tornado tomorrow morning until midday. Combined with the possible rainfall totals, our main risk is of coastal flooding from storm tides which are forecast to be 2 – 3 feet above normal tides. With our normally forecast high tides tonight between midnight and 6AM this combination creates the possibility of significant and dangerous coastal flooding in Iberia Parish. Anyone driving tonight should be alert for high water overtopping roads and should turn around instead of attempting to pass through waters of unknown depth.
