Iberia Parish – This morning’s NWS forecast changed to show TS Harvey re-entering the Gulf of Mexico and then making landfall again still in Texas. This will increase the rain amounts in Iberia Parish but not threaten us with winds or surge. Iberia Parish is forecast to receive 3”-5” of rain today and tomorrow From the NWS:
The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is watching Harvey slowly move back towards the central Texas coast. It will be near the coast Monday and Tuesday, before moving north, west of the Houston/Galveston area by the middle of the week. While we do not expect a significant wind problem with Harvey, the heavy rain and flood threat has increased across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana for today and Monday. Between 10 to 20 inches of rain is expected today and tonight in southeast Texas, with 5 to 10 inches in southwest Louisiana. On Monday, another 5 to 10 inches of rain is expected in both southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana, and with the wet grounds from a wet year, expect to see widespread flooding.
Rain totals today and tomorrow in central Louisiana will be one to five inches, and south central Louisiana will see 2 to 8 inches, so flash flooding will be possible during periods of heavy rains in those regions as well.
Due to the rains, we are expecting major river flooding on Pine Island Bayou near Sour Lake and Bevil Oaks, as well as Village Creek near Kountze. Moderate flooding is expected on the Neches River near Beaumont, Sabine River near Deweyville, and the Calcasieu River near Sam Houston Jones State Park and Old Town Bay.
There is also an isolated tornado threat for all of our region today and tonight. |
