The Lydia Cancer Association will hold the annual Fais Do Do & Cajun Food Fest this coming weekend at Weeks Park. Ahead of this year’s Cajun Food Fest, the Iberia Parish Mosquito Abatement District will conduct operations targeting Lydia and surrounding areas. As with all outdoor, activities the District is urging citizens to protect themselves and the little ones against mosquito bites and mosquito - borne diseases! It is imperative that citizens keep insect repellent handy, wear light colored clothing with long sleeves and long pants when outdoors and get rid of mosquito breeding sites near the home! West Nile virus is active around the Parish, Acadiana and the State.

Aerial operations will be Thursday (9/6) evening followed by additional operations Friday (9/7) in another part of the parish. If weather conditions are favorable operations will begin just prior to sunset and last approximately one and one half (1.5) hours.

During this period, only hypersensitive individuals or persons that wish to avoid all exposure to chemicals in the designated spray area should refrain from outdoor activities; otherwise, all other citizens can proceed with normal outdoor activities!

Citizens will notice a low flying aircraft. The aircraft is traveling quickly and will be out of the area in a brief period!

Operations Thursday night will encompass the Port of Iberia, Lydia, Bayou Jack, Grand Marais, specifically, Pesson, Curtis Ln., areas east of Avery Island, Old Jeanerette Rd., then southeast to Hwy. 90, Hubertville Rd. and 80 Arpent Rd. as well as all points in between.

Operations Friday night will target Daspit, Sugar Oaks, Vida Shaw and Loreauville Park, specifically, Lucerne Dr., Troy Rd., Sabrina Ct., Gondron Rd. and all points in between.
