Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard – Here is this Afternoons’ NWS update for our area: - 12/26/2018 For more information contact: Prescott Marshall
The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is expecting a very active period of weather over the next 24 to 36 hours. Showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage this afternoon and evening across our entire region. There is a very small risk for strong to severe storms during this time frame, but it will be rather windy, with strong south winds gusting in the 25 to 35 mph range. Also due to these strong winds, tides will run above normal, and there could be minor coastal flooding tonight and early Thursday morning during high tides.
By Thursday morning, we are expecting a line of strong to severe storms to move across the entire forecast area, starting in east Texas early in the morning, stretching across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana through the morning, before reaching south central Louisiana in the afternoon and evening. Some of these storms has the potential to be severe, including isolated tornadoes.
The threat of severe weather will end with the passage of this line of storms, and rain will be ending from west to east.
Rain totals will be in the 1 to 3 inch range, with locally higher amounts possible, especially in south central Louisiana Thursday afternoon and evening.
