The National Weather Service in Lake Charles will be expanding the winter weather advisory for early Tuesday morning to include northern Newton County, as well as Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Evangeline, Rapides, St. Landry, and Vernon Parishes.

Rain be start later this evening, and continue through the overnight hours. Between midnight and 6 am, some of the rain will mix with snow in parts of east Texas and central Louisiana. Around an inch of accumulation can be expected in the advisory area. Elevated roads and bridges will be the primary hazard area for snow, as their temperatures cool quicker than the ground itself.

As the precipitation is ending between 6 am and 9 am for the I-10 corridor from Beaumont to Lake Charles, Lafayette and the Atchafalaya bridge, there could be a mix of rain and snow, but temperatures are expected to remain above freezing, and no snow accumulation is expected.

Forecast confidence is on the low side for this event, so stay tuned for updates later tonight or early Tuesday morning.

Finally, a low water advisory will be in effect Tuesday for the Sabine-Neches and Calcasieu waterways due to tides running well below normal. In addition, a gale warning is in effect for the coastal waters due to strong north winds blowing in excess of 34 knots.
