The National Hurricane Center is continuing to monitor a tropical disturbance in the Bay of Campeche area. There is a medium (60%) chance for tropical development. An Air Force flight to investigate this system has been cancelled for today, but another flight is scheduled for tomorrow. The system is expected to move inland over the south Texas or northeast Mexico coast on Wednesday. As this systems moves northward, rain chances will increase beginning Wednesday with continued high rain chances through Friday. Tides are already running nearly a foot above normal. Increasing southerly winds beginning Wednesday will bring a potential for coastal flooding Wednesday night through Friday.
Here are forecast highlights:
Rainfall: 1-3 inches with locally higher amounts
Tides: 1-1.5 feet above normal.
This rainfall forecast will need to be monitored this week as any additional rainfall has the potential to increase flooding along area rivers, including the Atchafalaya.
