From the National Weather Service in Lake Charles:
The National Hurricane Center believes the system off the Texas coast south of Freeport is now a tropical depression with sustained winds of 35 mph. Tropical Depression 11 is very close to the coast and is not expected to strengthen to more than a weak tropical storm at most before landfall this afternoon or evening. The main weather problem with this system will be the excessive rainfall.
Here are the latest rainfall forecasts from 7 pm tonight through 7 pm Thursday. Six to ten inches in southeast Texas, two to six inches in southwest Louisiana. Always double these numbers to estimate what locally higher amounts are possible.
In addition, tides will run 1 to 2 feet above normal and cause minor coastal flooding during high tides, and winds will be gusty in the rain bands, gusting in the 35 to 45 mph range. This could cause some isolated power outages.
