Parish President M. Larry Richard - The latest info about Iberia Parish -  3/28/2020

For more information contact: Prescott Marshall

Additional positive cases of cases COVID-19 have been reported for Iberia Parish. We now have a total of nine (9) such cases that have been reported thus far.

The public should be assured that we have been planning for the moment when these positive cases would be detected and are prepared to continue acting in the best interest of the citizens of Iberia Parish in an effort to limit the spread of this virus. We will continue to follow the directives of the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and Governor Edwards regarding COVID-19.

I remain in constant contact with the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness ; Dr. Tina Stefanski and her staff at the Region 4 Louisiana Office of Public Hearth; Dionne Viator and the physicians and staff of Iberia Medical Center, our neighboring Parish Presidents and administrators and members of our State and Congressional delegation. They have been tremendous resources for information relating to COVID-19. I will continue to rely heavily upon them for advice and assistance. This has truly been a national, state and regional effort. I appreciate the cooperation and support of the citizens of Iberia Parish.

Regular briefings with our local school, municipal, and law enforcement officials will continue. We have all been working diligently to limit or prevent the spread of this virus. Remember you can assist us in doing so by following the following prevention recommendations:

• Wash hands often with soap and water for at least twenty (20) seconds.

• If soap and water are not available use an alcohol-based sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.

• Throw used tissues in the trash and immediately wash your hands.

• Avoid touching your face, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched solid surfaces daily, such as your doorknobs, light switches, phones, desks, keyboards, printers, and other similar office equipment.

• If you are sick, respect your friends and neighbors and stay home.

• Stay at home unless you are performing an essential activity such as those listed in Executive Order No. 2020-30 recently issued by Governor Edwards.
