WHEREAS, Iberia Parish, Louisiana, is currently facing the potential threat of widespread damage, injury, and/or loss of life or property resulting from severe weather in the form of heavy winds, rains, storm surges and flooding caused by a significant weather system (Tropical Storm Sally) currently located in the Gulf of Mexico; and predicted to quickly reach hurricane status;

WHEREAS, Tropical Storm Sally continues to intensify with an anticipated landfall late Monday, September 14th or early Tuesday, September 15th;

WHEREAS, there is low confidence in predicting the anticipated location for landfall of Tropical Storm Sally;

WHEREAS, tropical storm warnings are currently in effect for several parishes in South Louisiana, including Iberia Parish;

WHEREAS, immediate emergency action is necessary in order to minimize the effects of the anticipated weather event by maximizing the use of local available

resources and support in order to maintain order and protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens, property and assets of Iberia Parish; and

WHEREAS, the Parish President is authorized by Louisiana law; including, but not limited to, the Louisiana Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act (LSA- R.S. 29:721, et. seq.) as well as the Iberia Parish Home Rule Charter and other applicable ordinances, resolutions or statutes to declare a local state of emergency for Iberia Parish.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, M. Larry Richard, Parish President of Iberia Parish, Louisiana, hereby declare that a STATE OF LOCAL EMERGENCY exists in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, beginning at 3:00p.m., on Sunday, September 13, 2020, and continuing until terminated; that all Emergency Operations Plans be activated and that the Iberia Parish, Louisiana, Office of Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security is hereby designated as the point of contact.

THIS LOCAL EMERGENCY DECLARATION IS ISSUED ON THIS 13th DAY OF SEPTEMBER 2020, EFFECTIVE AS SET FORTH HEREINABOVE.
