WHEREAS, Iberia Parish, Louisiana, is currently facing the potential threat of widespread damage, injury, and/or loss of life or property from severe weather in the form of heavy winds, rains, storm surges and flooding caused by a significant weather system resulting from Tropical Depression No. 9 (Ida) currently located in the Caribbean Sea and quickly moving in the direction ofthe Gulf of Mexico; and

WHEREAS, there remains a considerable amount of uncertainty with respect to this weather system; and

WHEREAS, immediate emergency action is necessary in order to minimize the effects of the anticipated weather event by maximizing the use of local available resources and support necessary to maintain order and protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens, property and assets of Iberia Parish; and

WHEREAS, the Parish President is authorized by Louisiana law; including, but not limited to, the Louisiana Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act (LSA - R.S.

29:721 , et. seq.) as well as the Iberia Parish Home Rule Charter and other applicable ordinances, resolutions or statutes to declare a local state of emergency for Iberia Parish.

THEREFORE BElT RESOLVED, that I, M. Larry Richard , Parish President of Iberia Parish, Louisiana, hereby declare that a STATE OF LOCAL EMERGENCY exists in Iberia Parish, Louisiana as a result of Tropical Depression No. 9 (Ida), beginning at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 26, 2021 and continuing until terminated ; that the Parish President maintains all powers granted to that position during a declared emergency by federal , state and local law, including, but not limited to those powers set forth in La. R.S. 29:717 F; that all Emergency Operations Plans be activated; and that the Iberia Parish, Louisiana, Office of Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security is hereby designated as the point of contact.
