The public is invited to a press conference by Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard on Monday, August 1 at 1:30 pm, on the 4th floor of the Iberia Parish Courthouse. Gov. Edwards announced Thursday, July 28th, the State of Louisiana will be distributing $130 million in funding for the installation of broadband/fiber throughout the state.

These funds originate from the state’s, Granting Unserved Municipalities Broadband Opportunities (GUMBO) program, which received funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

As a result of this opportunity, and in collaboration with Cajun Broadband, Inc., Suddenlink Communications, Iberia Parish Government, and the ConnectLA Program, $5,285,616 will be dedicated to the installation of broadband/fiber in the Coteau area of Iberia Parish.

This project is slotted to begin October 2022.

This is a tremendous step toward establishing the infrastructure necessary to provide affordable and accessible high-speed internet to every household and business in Iberia Parish.

We are committed to eliminating the digital-divide (the gap between those who have access to digital technology and those who do not).

This initiative begins to address Iberia Parish broadband/fiber needs.

The benefits of which include:

• The ability to provide up to 10,000 Mbps download and upload.

• Fiber network is 99.999% reliable with extremely limited downtime.

• “Storm Ready: meaning 100% underground and able to withstand 10 feet of floodwater with a generator backup.

• Reliable work from home option.

• Superior internet access for homework.

But we will not stop here.

We will continue to seek additional funding, as it becomes available, to reach the goal of every household and business in Iberia Parish having access to broadband internet.

This project is the first step.
