Update:

The National Weather Service is forecasting strong to severe thunderstorms with an enhanced risk of tornadoes for Iberia Parish between 6PM and 9PM tonight.

Wind gusts of 50 mph, 1”-3” of rain and coastal flooding from strong on shore winds are also possible before, during and after the passage of this storm system.

Remember that if issued, a National Weather Service Tornado Watch means a tornado is possible and you should be prepared to act quickly if a Tornado Warning is issued.

If issued, a National Weather Service Tornado Warning means a tornado has been sighted and you should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy structure.

Hazardous Weather Message

…Severe Weather & Heavy Rainfall Possible Tuesday...

IMPACTS:

There is now an Enhanced Risk (3 out of 5) for severe weather across Lower Acadiana (generally along and southeast of a Grand Chenier to Henderson line), while the remainder of the forecast area is in either a Slight Risk (2 out of 5) or Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) - see the image below.

Damaging wind gusts and possible tornadoes are the primary threats with these storms, with strong tornadoes possible in the Enhanced Risk area.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning will also be possible.

Meanwhile, a Slight Risk (2 out of 4) for Excessive Rainfall remains in place for essentially the entire forecast area.

Expect most locations to receive between one and three inches of rainfall, with locally higher amounts possible...these heavier rains could produce localized flooding.

WHEN:

Showers and scattered thunderstorms will begin to develop around sunrise Tuesday morning in southeast Texas, then spread eastward across the rest of the forecast area into the afternoon.

The convection will eventually move out of the area beginning late Tuesday evening.

CONFIDENCE:

Confidence in both a severe weather and heavy rainfall event is increasing as of this morning.

Confidence in timing is moderate to high.
