From Parish President M. Larry Richard - Severe Weather Potential Late Thursday March 2 and Early Friday March 3 - 3/2/2023 For more information contact: Prescott Marshall
From the National Weather Service office in Lake Charles:
Overall the severe weather potential for this evening and tonight has not changed since the last update. A line of thunderstorms is expected to reach southeast Texas after 9 pm then move quickly to the east into southwest Louisiana and central Louisiana around midnight, then reach Acadiana around 3 am.
The main hazard remains severe thunderstorm straight line wind gusts, however quick spin up tornadoes and large hail can not be ruled out.
Also, southerly winds will be increasing later today and tonight away from the thunderstorm activity, especially this evening ahead of the line of thunderstorms. A wind advisory is in effect from 3 pm this afternoon through 6 am Friday morning.
Potential for Severe Storms continue for mainly Thursday night into Friday morning.
Changes: The severe potential is now for mainly thunderstorms developing along a line that is expected to form on Thursday night over southeast Texas moving into Louisiana during the early morning hours on Friday. Also, the greatest probability for severe weather has shifted some to the north with the Enhanced Risk now just for the far northern portions. The timing from the last forecast has shifted forward some, with the severe potential expected later Thursday night to Friday morning. Southerly winds away from thunderstorms are expected to increase during Thursday afternoon. By 3 pm, sustained winds are expected to be between 20 and 25 mph with gusts between 25 and 30 mph. Therefore, A Wind Advisory will likely be issued, however a High Wind Warning looks unlikely at this point.
Stay weather aware and look for another update by Thursday morning.
