JOB POSTING (12/11/2019) IBERIA PARISH GOVERNMENT PLANNING / ZONING & BUILDING OFFICIAL


Under limited supervision, performs technical, administrative, supervisory, and professional work in directing and coordinating the activities of the department to ensure the orderly growth and efficient stewardship of Parish resources. Work involves administering and enforcing ordinances such as those pertaining to subdivisions, zoning, manufactured housing and others; providing administrative supervision for inspections activities of the Department; and supervising a staff of professional, technical and support personnel. Reports to the Chief Administrative Officer.

Primary Responsibilities Include but Not Limited To:

Supervises employees, assigns & reviews work, maintaining standards. Preparation and implementation of department budget, etc.

Ensuring compliance with ordinances including flood damage prevention & stormwater management, and administers local standard codes including building, plumbing, mechanical, electric, gas, unsafe building abatement, etc. codes.

Keeps abreast of new national, State or local laws and regulation, and changes in codes, ordinances and regulations, and advises proper Parish officials of same. Advises citizens on building codes and other ordinances.

Reviews complex development plans and permit applications of developers and property owners to ensure compliance with Parish zoning, subdivision, mobile home and other land use or related ordinances.

Analyzes Parish problems, needs, programs, services and requests for assistance, recommends project priorities. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Parish President, subordinates, other Parish departments, architects, engineers, planners, contractors and subcontractor, and the general public. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Training and Experience

Requires Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Building Construction or a related field with four to five years of experience in planning or zoning; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license.
