Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard – Here is the latest NWS forecast for our area:
8/29/2016  Administration

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is expecting a drying trend to start Tuesday, as a weak low pressure area/trough weakens/dissipates along the south Texas coast by midweek. Areas most likely to see rain on Tuesday will be along and south of the I-10 corridor of southeast Texas and southern Louisiana, where less than a quarter of an inch of rain is expected. ...

Tropical Depression 9 could become a tropical storm tonight or Tuesday, but the forecast track keeps it well to our east in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. However, waves or swells from this system will keep tides running a foot above normal tonight. Low tide occurs this evening, but during high tide after midnight. Minor coastal flooding could occur between 3 am and 9 am Tuesday.

Due to the high tides and strong easterly winds at the coast, the Mermentau, Vermilion, and Teche will have a harder time effectively draining the water from the heavy rains two weeks ago.

Elsewhere in the tropics, Tropical Depression 8 will affect the North Carolina coast on Tuesday, before pulling away on Wednesday. Hurricane Gaston remains far out in the Atlantic and poses no risk to us. A tropical wave is forecast to move off the African coast tonight or tomorrow, and has a medium (50%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone later this week as it moves west across the Atlantic. It is too early to say whether this system will reach the Gulf of Mexico next week.
