West Nile Virus activity has been detected in mosquito samples submitted by the Iberia Parish Mosquito Control District. The Louisiana state veterinarian’s office has reported an Eastern Equine Encephalitis case in a horse located in Iberia Parish. Early indications point to an active season for encephalitis and West Nile Virus across the state. The Iberia Parish Mosquito Control District is urging citizens to protect themselves against mosquito bites and mosquito borne diseases! It is imperative that citizens keep insect repellent handy, wear light colored clothing with long sleeves and long pants when outdoors and get rid of mosquito breeding sites near the home! Residents throughout the Parish are urged to follow these simple guidelines recommended by the CDC!
