Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard – Here is the latest NWS forecast for Iberia Parish from our 4PM conference call:
8/28/2016  Administration

The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Invest 99L to Tropical Depression 9. It is forecast to become a tropical storm on Monday in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, and track to the northwest on Tuesday, then north on Wednesday, before reaching the Florida Big Bend region on Thursday. Since this is the first forecast of a very weak system, remember that weak systems can redevelop rather quickly and cause large forecast errors. While our region is not under a direct threat from this system right now, everyone should stay abreast of forecasts on this system this week. ...

A weak low pressure system along the Texas coast has a low (10%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone as it moves down the Texas coast on Monday. What this means for us locally is another day for rain and embedded thunderstorms on Monday. Rain totals will be highest along and south of the I-10 corridor of southeast Texas and southern Louisiana, where as much as an inch of rain could fall. Locally as much as 2 to 4 inches of rain is possible. If these rains fall in areas that are still dealing with the flood from two weeks ago, water levels could temporarily rise during and right after the heavy rains. Along the coast, tides are running above normal. During high tide after midnight tonight, there could be minor coastal flooding.

Elsewhere in the tropics, tropical depression 8 is a threat to North Carolina this week, Gaston is a hurricane in the Atlantic that won't threaten any land, and we are expecting a tropical wave to move off the coast of Africa and have a medium (50%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone later this week.
