LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
The Louisiana Department of Health will administer tetanus shots, at no cost, to flood victims Thursday, September 1st from 2p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Iberia Parish Health Unit, 715 B Weldon Street, New Iberia.
The Louisiana Office of Public Health is advising that adults need a tetanus booster every 10 years. People who haven’t had a tetanus immunization in 10 years should consider getting one, especially those people engaging in cleanup activities following the recent flooding. A rare but very serious bacterial infection that causes painful muscle spasms, tetanus could result from a scrape or cut that can be common as people clean up debris.
