Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard – Here is the latest tropical weather update from the NWS:
8/27/2016  Administration

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is monitoring a coastal trough near the southwest Louisiana coast. It has been producing showers and thunderstorms today, with as much as 3 to 4 inches of rain. Some street flooding is likely in the heavy rain. This rain activity will continue tonight into Sunday and linger into Monday. As much as 1 to 3 inches of rain can be expected in parts of southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana, with less amounts in central and south central Louisiana. ...

Besides the heavy rain threat, tides are running half a foot to a foot above normal. Minor coastal flooding could occur during high tide after midnight tonight.

Invest 99L is still a weak, broad low pressure area in the Bahamas. NHC gives this system a 30% chance of developing in the next 2 days and a 40% chance of developing next week in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. This is not a threat to us right now, but it is worth monitoring through the upcoming week.

Other systems of note in the Atlantic include Gaston, a tropical storm that has the potential to become a hurricane. It will remain far out in the Atlantic. A low pressure system near Bermuda has a 30% chance of developing as it moves towards the Carolinas next week. A tropical wave moving off the African coast has a 30% chance of developing as it moves west across the Atlantic and is currently expected to move up into the Atlantic. None of these systems pose a threat to us locally.
