Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard – Here is the latest NWS forecast
8/27/2016  Administration

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is continuing to monitor a weak low pressure trough off the southwest Louisiana coast. NHC gives this system a low (20%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone before it reaches the Texas coast on Sunday. ...

Invest 99L has a low (20%) chance of developing this weekend in the Bahamas, and a medium (40%) chance of development in the eastern Gulf of Mexico next week.

A new system off the US east coast has a low (30%) chance of development as it heads towards the Carolinas next week. Gaston is way out in the Atlantic and may become a hurricane again later today. The good news is Gaston will stay out in the Atlantic and pose no problems for us.

Due to the disturbance off our coast, tides are running a little above normal today. However we are heading into a low tide this afternoon so no coastal flooding is expected. Meanwhile, an area of rain with embedded thunderstorms is offshore and extends across parts of southwest and south central Louisiana this morning. Around half an inch of rain is expected along the I-10 corridor of southeast Texas and southwest and south central Louisiana. Rain totals will be closer to an inch or more near the coast. If heavy rains do move inland, areas currently experiencing flooding from the heavy rains two weekends ago could see additional flood
