Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard – Here is this mornings’ NWS update for our area:
8/29/2016  Administration

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is monitoring a weak low pressure area or trough off the Texas coast this morning. This system has a low (10%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, however it will keep our rain chances and tide running high today. As much as an inch of rain is expected for southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana today, with locally higher amounts of 3 to 5 inches possible. If the heavy rain falls over areas that are still dealing with high water from the heavy rains two weekends ago, water levels may actually rise temporarily during and right after the rain. Tides will be going out this afternoon, so no coastal flood threat is expected through this evening. ...

Tropical Depression 9 is in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, and is still forecast to move northwest into the central Gulf, before turning back to the northeast and making landfall on the west coast of Florida. This system could become a tropical storm later today or tomorrow. With the current forecast track, this system will not cause any weather effects locally. However this system bears watching since it is in the Gulf of Mexico.

Tropical Depression 8 will be a threat to the North Carolina tomorrow and Wednesday, while major Hurricane Gaston will stay far out in the Atlantic. All eyes will be on a new tropical wave that has a medium (50%) chance of developing later this week after it comes off the African coast later today or Tuesday. It is too early to make a projection on whether this system will threat the Gulf of Mexico next week.
