I, M. Larry Richard, President of Iberia Parish, Louisiana, by the authority vested in me by and through the Iberia Parish Home Rule Charter, Ordinances and Resolutions of Iberia Parish, and applicable Louisiana law, do hereby authorize and direct that the offices of Iberia Parish Government be closed effective 1:30 pm May 3, 2017 as many local roads have become inundated and are impassable as a result of the heavy rains which are currently being experienced through the parish. This decision is also based in part upon the Severe Weather Warning issued by the National Weather Service predicting continued severe thunderstorms across the region, damaging winds, hail and the threats of tornadoes.
Excepted from this closure are essential Iberia Parish Personnel assigned to the Iberia Parish Department of Public Works and the Iberia Parish Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
Normal Iberia Parish Government operations will resume at 8:00 am Thursday, May 4, 2017 unless this declaration is amended or extended.
All citizens and residents are asked to stay off the Iberia Parish roads and bridges until the flood waters covering the roads and bridges have receded.
