The Iberia Parish Rabies and Animal Control Department’s main purpose is to provide a public health program to ensure rabies vaccination and registration for all dogs and cats residing in Iberia Parish. The program includes enforcing the rabies and leash law ordinances, inclusive of animal quarantine and observation due to animal bites.

The shelter also houses unwanted and stray animals picked up by animal control officers, or dropped off at the shelter by citizens.

The shelter has an adoption program which consists of a variety of cats and dogs. All animals are required to be spayed/neutered and rabies vaccinated prior to adoption. Dog adoption fee is $100, Cat adoption fee is $70. Therefore, a money order only is requested at the time of adoption. The fee provides the animal with the spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, routine vaccination, and microchip.

The shelter also has feral/community outdoor only cats available free of charge. They are all vaccinated and spayed/neutered. These cats make great barn/outdoor cats and work well as pest control.

If your pet is impounded the following fees are assessed;

  • Reclaim fee is $35 the first day, which includes intake vaccinations and microchip and $5 each additional day if the animal is up to date with Rabies Vaccination,
  • $45 the first day and $5 each additional day if the animal is not current with Rabies Vaccination, Includes intake vaccinations, microchip and a voucher to receive a rabies vaccination.
