Responsibilities Include but Not Limited To:

Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled, unskilled, and/or manual maintenance/repair work associated with various projects/activities of the Acadiana Fairgrounds. Work involves maintaining the facility and performing upkeep on the grounds; preparing arena for event rentals; using tractors with front-end loader to work arena and grounds; supervising inmate labor on a daily basis; and building required pens and other structures. Reports to the Director.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepares arena for events as per contract requirements.
  • Supervises inmate labor.
  • Cleans arena and grounds.
  • Packs dirt as needed for events.
  • Supervises community service workers.
  • Performs any necessary maintenance around facility.
  • Prepares and builds various structures and objects in the arena to accommodate events.
  • Determines number of permanent or temporary stalls needed for an event
  • Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as measurements, staff requests, and grounds requirements.
  • Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as number of stalls needed, dirt needs, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Refers to diagrams, previous year rental agreement, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.
  • Operates a variety of equipment and machinery such as tractor, front-end loader, skid loader, etc.
  • Uses a variety of tools such as carpentry tools, screwdrivers, saws, etc.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Director, inmate labor, Secretary, event promoters/renters, event participants, and the general public.

Minimum Training & Experience

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by nine to twelve months of experience in parks and recreation, landscaping, and/or related experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to operate an automobile, tractors, a variety of maintenance tools and equipment, and a variety of automated office machines including a copier, typewriter, calculator, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to fifty pounds.
