Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard has declared a public emergency due to Tropical Storm Francine. This storm, currently in the Gulf of Mexico, is expected to intensify into a hurricane and impact our area around September 11th or 12th. We anticipate severe weather conditions including strong winds, heavy rainfall up to six to eight inches (up to 12 inches locally), and significant storm surge flooding (up to 10 feet) along coastal parishes.
Given the potential severity of this storm, immediate emergency actions are necessary to protect our community. This declaration authorizes the full use of parish resources to address and mitigate the effects of the storm, including the potential entry onto private property if required for safety measures.
This emergency declaration is effective immediately and will remain in place for up to 30 days or until lifted by the Parish President. We urge all residents to stay informed and prepared as the situation develops.
