The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Iberia Parish, southeastern Lafayette Parish, and west central St. Martin Parish. The warning is in effect until 9:30 a.m.
At 6:26 a.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall across the area. Between 3 and 6 inches of rain have already fallen, with an additional 2 to 4 inches possible. Rainfall rates of 3 to 4 inches per hour are expected.
Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. This includes flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other low-lying or poor drainage areas.
Locations that may experience flash flooding include New Iberia, St. Martinville, Broussard, Loreauville, Acadiana Regional Airport, Coteau, and Cade.
Avoid driving on flooded roads. Turn around and find an alternate route if you encounter high water. Stay alert and use caution when traveling.
