During last night’s Council Meeting, the Iberia Parish Council approved an ordinance proposed by Councilman Warren P. Gachassin Jr. to extend a significant tax benefit to our local first responders.
This ordinance establishes an additional $2,500 exemption on the assessed value of property, building upon the existing homestead exemption. It aligns with Article 7, Section 21 (O) of the Louisiana State Constitution, which supports those who serve our communities with dedication and valor.
Our first responders – police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and other essential service providers – play a critical role in safeguarding our safety and well-being. They face daily risks and make personal sacrifices to protect us and respond to emergencies. This new tax exemption is a tangible acknowledgment of their commitment and provides some financial relief.
The ordinance not only offers financial assistance but also reflects our shared gratitude for their selfless service. By implementing this exemption, we can express our appreciation and reinforce our support for their vital roles in our community.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Councilman Gachassin for championing this ordinance. Your initiative to secure an additional $2,500 tax exemption for our first responders demonstrates a thoughtful and impactful way to honor their exceptional work and commitment to our community. Your dedication to supporting our local heroes is greatly appreciated and will make a significant difference in recognizing their invaluable contributions.
