The Iberia Parish Mosquito Abatement District is urging residents to take precautions during the peak season for West Nile Virus (WNV) and encephalitis transmission. Prevention is a shared responsibility, and while the District will work to reduce mosquito populations through ground and aerial spray operations, citizens are encouraged to take personal measures to avoid mosquito-borne illnesses.
Weather permitting, aerial spraying is scheduled for Monday, August 11, beginning near sunset and lasting approximately one hour. If conditions prevent operations on Monday, spraying will take place on Tuesday, August 12.
Areas scheduled for treatment include Delcambre/Jefferson Island, the Town of Delcambre, Bob Acres, Railroad Rd., Jefferson Island Rd., Rip Van Winkle, Longside Rd., and all points in between.
Citizens are encouraged to wear mosquito repellent as directed, avoid outdoor activity at dawn and dusk, wear light-colored clothing, and eliminate standing water around their homes.
Low-flying aircraft will be visible during spraying. If you see one overhead, do not attempt to follow it—it will leave the area quickly. Individuals with chemical sensitivities may wish to stay indoors during operations.
