Coastal flooding has enabled persistent flood water mosquitoes to flourish. Ahead of the July 4th holiday the district will support ground spray operations with aerial spray missions over the next several nights.Planned sorties will begin tonight (6/26), Thursday (6/27), Friday (6/28) and Saturday (6/29) if needed. Each evening will be evaluated for the appropriate weather conditions. Operations will begin each evening near sundown and last approximately one (1.5) and one half hours.
During this period, only hypersensitive individuals or persons that wish to avoid all exposure to chemicals in the designated spray area should refrain from outdoor activities; otherwise, all other citizens can proceed with normal outdoor activities!
Citizens will notice low flying aircraft — If the aircraft is overhead DO NOT attempt to follow the path of the aircraft. The aircraft is traveling quickly and will be out of the area in a brief period!
Sorties planned this evening (6/26) will focus on Rip Van Winkle, Hwy. 14 east to Avery Island Rd. and all points in between. Operations Thursday (6/27) will be south of Hwy. 90, east to west from Patoutville, Lydia, Bayou Jack to west of Avery Island. Friday (6/28) Avery Island will be the primary target of operations and Saturday (6/29) operations will be south of Hwy.90, east to west, south Port of Iberia, Rynella and Laurent to just west of Avery Island Rd.
