From Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard – On September 25, 2024, I had the privilege of signing a proclamation declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Iberia Parish. Joining me were Council Chairman Warren P. Gachassin Jr. and Kelli Cantu, PR and Training Advocate for Chez Hope, Inc.

This proclamation highlights the troubling prevalence of domestic violence nationwide, especially in Louisiana, where women experience disproportionately high rates of abuse. It underscores the urgent need for community awareness, collaborative efforts, and support for organizations like Chez Hope, which provide essential services and advocacy to victims.

Through this proclamation, Iberia Parish reaffirms its commitment to combatting domestic violence and promoting the safety and well-being of all its residents.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to those who tirelessly support survivors and work to raise awareness of this issue. It’s through the dedication of organizations like Chez Hope that we can continue making progress toward a safer, more compassionate Iberia Parish.

Let us stand together in the fight against domestic violence, ensuring the protection of the vulnerable and advocating for the dignity and safety of all. As October unfolds, may we use this time to educate, engage, and uplift our community in the shared goal of ending domestic violence, both in our parish and beyond.

Let’s all take action to create a future free from violence.
