The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is monitoring Tropical Depression 16, currently off the Nicaragua coast in the western Caribbean. This system is expected to become a tropical storm tonight or tomorrow, which when it happens, will be named Nate.
The forecast track for this system shows it moving northwest, coming off the Yucatan Peninsula into the southern Gulf of Mexico by Saturday morning. It could be a hurricane by then.
The forecast scenario for this weekend is very uncertain in terms of both strength and location of landfall. Right now, NHC shows a landfall east of our forecast area as a category 1 hurricane on Sunday.
