Iberia Parish – Here is this afternoon’s forecast for the rain we’re currently experiencing and a possible Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm later this week. Rain is our main hazard: Iberia Parish – Here is this afternoon’s forecast for the rain we’re currently experiencing and a possible Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm later this week. Rain is our main hazard:
Two different events to separate here. First, we have a heavy rain event expected tonight through Monday for southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. Between two to four inches of rain is expected with this system due to an upper level low pressure system that is sitting over us. Locally there could be higher amounts, so be prepared for flash flood warnings. It is much more difficult to tell how deep the water is on the roads at night. Second, the National Hurricane Center has started advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone Seven. This is the system coming into the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow near Key West, Florida. The forecast track brings it to southeast Louisiana by Tuesday night/Wednesday morning as a strong tropical storm. After landfall, the system will weaken, but weak steering currents will keep the remnants in our region through the end of the week. This tropical system has the potential to be a heavy rain producer Wednesday through Saturday across southeast Texas and Louisiana. Three to five inches will be common, but some locations could see much more. Where the highest rain totals will occur is still uncertain. Everyone should be prepared in case it happens by you.
