Tropical Storm Gordon is expected to make landfall late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning between southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi/Alabama state line. Gordon has the potential to become a hurricane before landfall. Iberia Parish – Here is this morning’s NWS update:
Tropical Storm Gordon is expected to make landfall late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning between southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi/Alabama state line. Gordon has the potential to become a hurricane before landfall.
For our region, the main threat will be heavy rain and flooding today thanks to an mid level low pressure area over southeast Texas. Tuesday will see less rain, before the heavy rain threat increases again Wednesday through the end of the week.
It is too early to say exactly where any rainbands will be set up Wednesday through Friday. These rainbands are typically 20 to 30 miles wide and can extend over 100 miles long. These rainbands will be focused areas where flooding could occur, as well as isolated tornadoes and gusty winds of 40 mph.
At the coast, tides will run a foot above normal this week. Minor coastal flooding is possible during periods of high tides.
